Russell Bonner Bentley III - America's foreign fighter with the Russians in Ukraine - should feel right at home, given the tight relationship between Russian organized crime and Russian intelligence services. Mr. Bentley was previously involved in the wholesale smuggling of drugs into the United States and related money laundering activity, on account of which he spent an extended period of time in Federal prison. His supervised release ended in 2012, so being in Ukraine with the Russians is not a violation of his parole. However, should the United States find his current activities to be criminal, Bentley's previous conviction(s) will likely play a role in sentencing.
But that, as we say, is his problem.
