"they don't need an army. just @webradius"
Kind (and obviously facetious) words from Señor Cricket:
A few points:
- Kremlin Trolls are one small but very visible element of Russian and allied forces at work globally. This isn't just about trolls, or just about Twitter, or just about Ukraine
- That larger effort is best understood as a slightly updated form of KGB Active Measures, something about which we know quite a lot, and which can be successfully combatted in a number of ways.
- One of the bigger vulnerabilities of Active Measures is that to succeed it cannot be entirely covert: It has to have a public, overt expression to work - the Kremlin has to risk burning assets to have an impact.
- What Ukraine, and the Baltic states, NATO and the EU, Canada, the USA, Australia, Israel, and every other country targeted by the Kremlin need is to aggressively combat Active Measures by exposing the deceit, burning the assets, identifying and targeting the dupes, useful idiots, fronts, and bona fide agents of Russia and its allies.
I'm just trying to do my part to help make bad things happen to bad people who are in the service of the Kremlin. And for the record, I'm not an army of one. I'm more like a one man intelligence service.
